Coming Soon – Santiago De Compostela

We’re only a month away from the start of the 2012-2013 Season as Marcel Pérès makes his Northwest and Cappella Romana debut directing an all-male chant ensemble in a program of medieval latin hymnody for St. James, sung directly from facsimilies of the Codex Calixtinus. This is the medieval manuscript that was only recently recovered after being stolen from the Cathedral of St. James in Compostela, Galicia!

Marcel Peres rarely travels to North America, and even more rarely directs groups other than his celebrated Ensemble Organum.

Perhaps the greatest iconoclast among the early music performers of his generation, Marcel Pérès, challenges his audience to rethink how we hear musical repertories from the tenth to the eighteenth centuries. After many years of planning, Cappella Romana has secured Monsieur Peres for a week’s residency culminating in performances of the Vespers of St. James.
