Jordi Savall with Hesperion XXI and guests
Jordi Savall is an exceptional figure in today’s music world. One of the most multifariously gifted musicians of his generation and a revered viola da gamba player, he is one of the principal architects of the current revaluation of historical music. This program explores the continuation of music of the Byzantines in the Ottoman court by Armenian, Greek, and Sephardic musicians.
“Savall’s group [Hespèrion XXI] functions as a flawless, completely engaged ensemble, but their real strength lies in bringing the wonderful colors of these ancient instruments to life.” —Boston Musical Intelligencer
